CAEP is an international agricultural exchange program recognized by the U.S. Department of State. We connect young adults with unique opportunities to explore the world through agriculture, while also allowing rural families to experience diverse cultures and build lasting friendships. Our mission is "connecting the world through agriculture."

CAEP provides training and internship programs in various fields, including agriculture, horticulture, enology, equine studies, and turf management, working with top professionals in the U.S.

We assist with program placement, visa applications, health insurance, and ongoing support before and during your stay.
Application Process
Registering for a CAEP program is free! During registration, you'll create a username and password to access our secure system. You'll need a permanent email address for confirmation. If you don't have one, you can sign up for a free Google email account. All your information is kept confidential.
Steps to Register
Once registered, you'll receive your login details via email. Use them to complete your application, update information, and join the CAEP Community, where you can connect with others and stay updated.
Program Requirements
To participate in a CAEP program, you must:
- Be aged 18-28 (21-35 for enology).
- Have relevant experience or education in agriculture.
- Be eager to learn about and share cultures.
- Be mature and adaptable to living in a foreign country.
- Have no personal or legal issues.
- Speak and understand English well.
- Be in good health.
Application Components
Your application will include:
- Contact and emergency information.
- Previous work experience and travel history.
- Communication skills and goals for the program.
You'll also need to upload:
- A headshot.
- A copy of your passport.
- A reference letter.
- A CV/resume (required for enology and equine).

Our Story:
CAEP was founded by Milt Smedsrud, who grew up on the Smedsrud Family Farm in rural Minnesota, established by his grandparents after immigrating from Norway in 1881. This upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for his heritage and bilingualism.
In 1956, while serving in the military, Milt married Birgitta in Reykjavik, Iceland. They returned to Minnesota and built a career in insurance to support agricultural families. During a visit to Birgitta's parents in Copenhagen, Milt connected with Fred Trager at the U.S. Embassy, who proposed starting an agricultural exchange program.
Since then, CAEP has empowered young adults to experience cultural exchange and gain hands-on training in their fields. Our program fosters lasting friendships and equips participants with practical skills to launch successful careers back home.
