The story of Henry Akita – Ghana

Henry Akita from Ghana has a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Biotechnology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. During his program interview with CAEP, Henry shared his passion for learning more about tomato and pepper crops, as well as other crops hoping to gain knowledge from others and eventually establish his own farm in Ghana. He already owned land that was passed on to him. Shortly after arriving at the program location in NY a tomato and pepper greenhouse, Henry felt unwell. The diagnosis was a blood clot near the heart, possibly a lingering effect of COVID. Before the surgery, CAEP staff visited him at the hospital in Pittsburgh to ensure he was comfortable and reassured him of our support. Determined to learn, he returned the program location after recovering from surgery.

After completing the program, Henry returned home to start his small farm, planting the very crops he learned about in the United States. He was able to hire a few people to help him with his farm. In 2025, he also began his own greenhouse project to grow peppers and tomatoes, and it has been a great success. In addition, Henry has registered his company, Vine Forge and is grafting and raising seedlings for other farmers.
Henry’s story is a powerful reminder for young people to pursue their dreams, not let them be derailed. Through Bridge USA programs, CAEP can help make that happen.
