Celebrating a Remarkable Career: Kathy Belka’s 30 Years at CAEP
As we celebrate our treasured colleague and friend, it’s time to reflect on the incredible journey of Kathy, who is marking an impressive 30 years with CAEP. Kathy’s dedication, expertise, and warm spirit have been a cornerstone of our organization.
A Journey That Began in 1994
Kathy joined CAEP in May of 1994, starting her career in the accounting department. Over the years, she has become the anchor behind the scenes, supporting our coordinators and ensuring everything runs smoothly. Her role might not always have been in the spotlight, but her contributions have been invaluable.
Thousands of DS-2019’s and Countless Lives Touched
One of Kathy’s significant achievements has been processing thousands of DS-2019’S. While she admits she’s lost count, each DS-2019 represents a piece of the global exchange puzzle that she has helped complete. Through her meticulous work, Kathy has touched countless lives around the world, facilitating cultural exchange and fostering international connections. Her impact extends far beyond the office, influencing people and programs globally.
Throughout the years, Kathy has worked hand in hand with the State Department. She has established strong relationships, many of which feel like family. Kathy fondly recalls her trips to Washington, D.C., where she met these important contacts in person.
Memorable Adventures Around the World
Kathy’s career has also taken her on some incredible journeys. She had the opportunity to travel to England, where she collaborated with Vanessa and Richard Peach from IEP UK. The highlight of this trip was a day trip to the North Sea—an experience she describes as “amazing.”
In addition, Kathy attended the Grow Abroad Conference in Spain, where she connected with country partner representatives. Her stay just outside Barcelona, by the Mediterranean Sea, offered breathtaking views and unforgettable experiences, including a tour of the wharves and a visit to the local fish market.
Her adventures didn’t stop there. Kathy explored The Chef’s Garden in Ohio and visited prestigious horse farms in Kentucky, including Juddmonte and Ashford Stud. Witnessing Derby winners up close was a highlight of her equestrian excursions.
A Career Full of Variety and Joy
Kathy’s enthusiasm for her job has never waned, thanks to the ever-changing nature of her work and the amazing colleagues she has had the pleasure of working with. She reflects on her 30 years at CAEP with gratitude and a sense of accomplishment. “There is always something new and/or different going on,” Kathy says. “And the opportunity to work with amazing co-workers makes the time fly by.”
Thank You, Kathy
Kathy, your dedication and contributions have left a lasting mark on CAEP and on the lives of people around the world through your work in helping promote cultural exchange. We are incredibly grateful for the years of hard work and the positive impact you’ve had on our team and beyond.
