Wine Country Harvest Update
Harvest is underway in wine country and we recently caught up with a few CAEP enology trainees to see how the harvest is going! Read on to get their harvest update!
Mariana Boreo {Argentina}
“I am International Sommelier from Argentina and this is my first full-time harvest so every simple activity is a new goal for me. I am working at La Crema Winery in Sonoma where there are other interns from Argentina as well. Harvest is underway and the grapes are coming in so my job is getting harder and I am working 12-hour shifts! We don’t have a set schedule and I do many activities during my shift such as sorting grapes, managing the press machine, additions, and cleaning. I am very happy with this experience at La Crema Winery. For me, this is a dream come true!”
Jarrad Steele {Australia}
“It’s been a slow start to harvest at Chateau Montelena with mainly white varieties being harvested. More Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon will be coming in this week as well. Things should get much busier real soon! I am learning all about the different techniques the winery uses compared to what I have used before from cleaning and sanitizing to ferment temps, yeasts variations, etc.”
Luca Maroello {Italy}
“We are very close to finishing as we are harvesting the last tons of grapes for the sparkling wine! We are working 12-hour shifts and we have nice teamwork with other interns from across the country including Texas, Washington, and Los Angeles. We are always really focused but when we can, we try to have fun in the cellar too! I love Schramsberg Winery! They make a really nice product!”
